Um, it can just be a map?
Just recently we found out that Watch Dogs would be headed to the Wii U, and fans couldn’t be more excited. For years, Nintendo lost out on many high profile multi-platform releases because developers didn’t feel like supporting the SD Wii, but the future looks a lot clearer for Nintendo with their new HD console. Of course, that doesn’t mean that everyone knows what to do with the GamePad yet.
Speaking to Digital Spy, producer Dominic Guay mused a bit on the Wii U development process: “We’re still investigating how we’ll use the tablet on the Wii U, but with the things I mentioned before, for us it’s not going to be a weird stretch. It’s natural. What’s really cool with Watch Dogs, when we start thinking of those devices, it’s not a weird abstraction, it’s not like I’m a space alien and now I’m using a tablet.”
Here’s the answer to the almighty riddle of the Wii U GamePad, Ubisoft — it’s a controller. It has the ability to be more, but at the end of the day, it’s a controller. Just put a map on it, call it a day, and design the controls just like the PS3 and 360 versions do.
I promise, it’ll work!
