It can be a bit tricky figuring out where exactly you’re supposed to go for this quest, as well as how to solve the riddle that comes later in the questline.

How to progress the Ancient Battery quest

In order to progress the quest you actually have to visit the place it all began: where you first spawned into Palia. Before you go, make sure you have the Ancient Battery item in your inventory. If it’s in your storage chest, you will not be able to proceed to the next part of the quest.

You may have forgotten where exactly your journey in Palia began. If so, simply open your map and look to the north. Specifically, you want to return to Phoenix Falls. You must ascend the hillside to the right of the entrance in order to reach the secret entrance behind the waterfall.

Once inside, continue forward through the cave. You will eventually come to a sealed door with a slot to put an item inside. This is where the Ancient Battery item comes in handy. Simply having it in your inventory will allow you to interact with the door, allowing you to unseal the entrance.

Phoenix Falls Waterfall Shrine riddle solution

You are now inside the Phoenix Falls Waterfall Shrine, where you will encounter your first riddle. Interacting with the mysterious bowl in the middle will simply inform you it has an inscription that has been worn away. The real hint for this riddle is located on the plaque on the sealed door directly behind the bowl.

The strange writing says:

“Knowledge grows the mind even in times of strife, to enter here, you must supply that which grows life.”

So, in a game like Palia that focuses heavily on farming, what grows life? (More specifically, plant life.) Water! This is indeed the solution to the Phoenix Falls Waterfall Shrine riddle in Palia.

Simply pull out your watering can and begin to fill up the bowl in the middle of the shrine. Just like when you water crops, you should see the bar begin filling up. If your watering can is empty, there’s water all around the outer perimeter of the room that you can fill your can in.

Once the bowl is filled up, the door in the shrine will open and your quest will update. The archaeologist NPC Jina will join you in the shrine, telling you to scout out the room ahead. From here, enter the next room and climb over the rubble into the next area. Move to the edge of the platform you are on to see vast ancient ruins below.

This will update your objective to Return to Jina, which will officially complete the Ancient Battery quest!
