Wayforward ‘actively pursuing’ Shantae on 3DS eShop

A fair few fans want to see the original Shantae come to the 3DS via its newly established eShop, and they’re not the only ones. Developer Wayforward has confirmed that it’s currently attempting to make it happen, though it cannot officially announce anything.

“With Game Boy titles now being released on the 3DS eShop, we are frequently asked if we plan on bringing the original Shantae to the service,” said the studio. “We have nothing to confirm at this time, but we can say that we are actively pursuing the re-release of Shantae on the 3DS Virtual Console. As soon as we have anything to report, we will let you know. Until then, keep an eye on our Facebook and Twitter pages for future updates.”

The original Shantae was a Game Boy Color game published by Capcom in 2002. Wayforward released a sequel, Risky’s Revenge, on DSiWare in 2010, which is easily one of the best loved titles on the service.
