Yesterday, our own Jonathan Holmes bared his soul to the world when he came to the defense of tripping in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Though his reasons were myriad and his motives sincere, after skimming the nearly 450 comments on the article, one thing became crystal clear: everyone hates what he loves. [Note: I know literally nothing about fighting games and don’t pretend to, and thus have no opinion on this topic or any other topic that stemmed from Holmes’ article. In fact, my entire thoughts on the original article can be found here. His piece was just a good jumping off point for my own and nothing more, so please don’t turn this into another argument thread about Smash Bros, Jonathan Holmes, or anything else related to his piece that innocently sparked an idea in my mind.]
Not that there’s anything wrong with that, of course; no person’s enjoyment of something should be predicated on whether that thing is popular, after all. But the whole ordeal got me thinking: are there any game mechanics, genres, settings, tropes, WHATEVERS, that you love that everyone else seems to hate? If so, we want to know!
Whether you’re the only person on Earth who enjoyed tracking down every flag in Assassin’s Creed, or the sicko who actually looked forward to phone calls from Roman in GTA IV, we want to hear what awful thing you love and why! To participate, just start up a new post in our Community Blogs, tell us your story, and title it, “I love [blank]!” Not keen on using words? Then share your thoughts in art, music, or any other form you prefer! The important part is that you be honest and have fun.
My team and I will be scouring the blogs and promoting the best creations to the front page, so be sure to check out these tips for getting your blog noticed. I can’t wait to see what you come up with!
