Batman: Arkham Knight is finally here, and the consensus seems to be that it’s not only a proper ending for the Rocksteady trilogy, but it may be the best game yet. But there’s a major source of contention, and that’s the Batmobile bits, which are a newly minted mechanic for Knight. Not only can you call upon your trusty vehicle in the open world, but there’s a number of sections designed around the car.
Personally, I think they overdid it a bit. While “the car” is fun at first, and I love how you can explore the open world on your own with or without it, the actual vehicle sections are easily the worst part of the game, and Rocksteady constantly throws them at you — almost like there’s a WB executive in the back going “we need more car!” It’s not enough to ruin the game, but it breaks up the pacing a bit when I just want to beat up more dudes or sneak around and listen to baddie banter. I also feel like the tutorial sections for it were far less organic than the series has presented in the past for similar mechanics like combat and predator sections.
