Uh oh, it’s a scary error message. With Season 1 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and the new season of Warzone starting, it appears some things have happened internally. When first starting up the FPS as of today, you’ll see a new error message indicating you must reset everything. But what does ‘you must reset your rank and unlocks to continue’ do in MW3 and Warzone? Thankfully, nothing at all. At least it shouldn’t.
Will anything be reset if you click yes on ‘you must reset your rank and unlocks to continue’?
It’s a scary notion, being told that in order to play the game, everything will have to be reset. Thankfully, according to the official @CODUpdates Twitter, this is just a bug and an incorrect error message. Your data is not actually corrupt and your rank, unlocks, and purchases are not lost. However, your loadouts, customizations, and some settings may reset to default settings. As such, you will have to redo all of that.
I took the dive, clicked yes, and can confirm that only my loadouts reset. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like there’s any other way to proceed and play Call of Duty: MW3 or Warzone, so you will more than likely have to take the leap of faith and click yes. More than likely, you will not lose anything.
It is important to note that a couple of players on the /r/ModernWarfareIII/ have claimed to have everything reset. Most of the people there are reporting nothing resetting or only their loadouts and/or settings, so it’s possible those saying they lost everything are not being truthful.
Fingers crossed and tread carefully, my friend. Even though you now know what does ‘you must reset your rank and unlocks to continue’ do in MW3 and Warzone, you still may want to wait and see if Activision is able to fix the issue before continuing.
