What happens if Miquella steals your heart in Elden Ring?

What is love?

Players have been finding out that Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree is a tough challenge. Bosses are tougher, enemies are hitting harder, and just about everything takes more time to kill. This is juxtaposed by a moment of sweet tenderness at the end of the game.

What happens if Miquella steals your heart in Elden Ring?

There will be spoilers ahead for the end of the Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.

The final battle in Elden Ring is against the Promised Consort Radahn. That’s right! You thought you had seen the last of this murderous maniac in the main game, but the boy is back. He is just as brutal to deal with as he was in the base game but for different reasons this time.

One of these mechanics is that he will reach out and try to hug you. This is Miquella trying to steal your heart. You might remember that Miquella is somewhat gifted in the charms department, and if you gets you twice with this, you will stop fighting and instead begin to worship him. This is the same as dying, and you will end up auto-losing the fight and respawning at the nearby Site of Grace. It’s definitely an interesting mechanic for a Soulsborne game and avoids feeling cheap because the hug animation is reasonably slow, and you can also counter it.

How to stop Miquella stealing your heart

The way to stop this wicked charm of Miquella’s is to use Miquella’s Great Rune. This can be obtained from the Scudatree Avatar, which is detailed in the linked article. When you get charmed, you can use the Great Rune to break it, meaning if you get hit a second time, it won’t steal your heart. As long as you use the Great Rune after each hug, you will be safe.

Please note that this is not a Great Rune in the way that you might be imagining. You do not need to visit a tower and attune to it. Instead, go into your Equipment, and you can equip it as an item, the same as Torrent or some Ashes. Just add it to your inventory items, and you can select it mid-fight and use it. It doesn’t take too long to get through the animation, but when you need it, you will need to buy yourself a bit of space. It is much easier to use this when you have a Summon with you, as they will often aggro the big guy and buy you time.
