It’s just a cosmetic celebration

Video game birthday celebrations add a little extra oomph to any bday week (the same goes for birthday month restaurant coupons). But in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, it’s a very straight-forward affair that just involves a cute little celebration.

In other words, don’t expect to cheat the system.

Register your birthday at the Pokecenter, then sit back and wait

Once you gain access to a Pokecenter early in the game, you’ll be able to heal your Pokemon, ask where to go next, get helpful tutorial tips, and enter your birthday.

After selecting the latter option, the game will remind you that you can’t go back on your choice, and once you enter your birthday, you’re locked in. The year isn’t necessary, instead you’ll be inputting the month (in a “00” digit format) and the day (in the same “00” digit format). After that, the game will lock you in and the option will go away entirely.

If you do happen to visit a Pokecenter on that day, Scarlet or Violet will reward you with a little parade of sorts at the Pokecenter itself. There is (digital) cake. That’s it! A crucial item was likely barred as a reward due to the rampant system-gaming that Nintendo has deemed a problem in several other games. In any case, at the very least, it’s a sweet little extra you can completely ignore.
