The G-Serum in Spider-Man 2 seems like a last resort for Oscorp CEO Norman Osborn. Here’s what we know about it so far.
Note: Spoilers will follow for the entirety of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, including its ending and post-credits scene.
What exactly is the G-Serum in Spider-Man 2?
During the closing moments of Spider-Man 2, Norman Osborn is by his son’s bed, frustrated about his soon-to-be death. That’s until he tells his staff to begin the G-Serum. It seems to be a last resort decision as he once again makes his son a Frankensteinian mess.
The G in “G-Serum” seems to point to a long-time, infamous villain called the Green Goblin. In the comics, TV shows, and movies, an Osborn (either the father or son) is infected with something called the Goblin Formula. It’s often tied to the Osborn family. There’s a storyline somewhat similar to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2‘s.
According to the Marvel Wiki and Tell It Animated, Otto Octavius creates a formula by mixing Spider-Man’s blood and a sample of the Venom symbiote in the 2012-2017 animated Marvel universe. After that, Norman Osborn turns into the Green Goblin. Insomniac Games could use this as inspiration as the narrative concept aligns. There could be a similar outline in an upcoming Spider-Man game but with Norman’s son instead.
In Spider-Man 2, Osborn meets with Octavius during the post-credits scene. Perhaps this working relationship will continue as they could work on the G-Serum together. The outbreak is still prevalent after the game’s story as well with the Symbiote Nests, so Oscorp can acquire elements of the Venom symbiote after the villain’s disappearance. That is only speculation, however.
How would the story continue with the G-Serum?
With Harry Osborn likely returning in the sequel, thanks to the G-Serum, it will almost definitely include Peter Parker. Parker is his best friend and Osborn knows his identity, likely endangering them. Norman Osborn, in the post-credits scene, also wants to know who both the Spider-Men are.
He blames them for Harry’s downfall, despite the Venom symbiote being too dangerous to control. We should know from Lex Luthor that if someone with power and lots of money is after you, it’s bad news. Peter Parker will likely return from his retirement sooner rather than later. However, if Miles Morales does face major problems, he may have Silk to help him too.
