When the President tells you to pick up a potentially unstable energy source for a giant military prototype, you should probably do it without thinking. You find the Active Chimera Core after taking down the prototype Chimera in the “Lucretia My Reflection” mission of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty. You’ll know when you hit it because it’s not something you easily forget. Good news! It’s safe to store in your pocket indefinitely. The description of The Active Chimera Core says it still vibrates with power, so that is definitely something you should put in your pants.
However, while the Active Chimera Core isn’t hurting anything in your inventory, you may want to put it to good use. There are essentially two things you can do with it.
The first is putting it on display in V’s (main) apartment. There, it’s useful in collecting dust, and… That’s about it.
The more functional use of the core, however, is crafting weapon mods. You can do this at any time by opening your inventory, going into the crafting section, and clicking the mods tab. There are four possible mods you can craft. They are:
- Power Weapon Mod – Firecracker: Shoots explosive rounds.
- Tech Weapon Mod – Wallpuncher: Allows you to charge weapons to 200% capacity without increasing charge time. +100% armor penetration. No penalty for penetrating cover.
- Smart Weapon Mod – Hackatomy: +5% chance to apply a quickhack effect. Effect depends on the body part hit.
- Melee Weapon Mod – Severance: When an enemy is below 50% health, each hit to their head or limbs has a 20% chance to dismember and instantly kill.
It’s also worth noting that these mods can be unequipped from weapons. However, you should also keep in mind that the Active Chimera Core can only be used once. Choose wisely.
