The eternal reinstall
We all have that game, perhaps sat on Steam or on our shelves, that just never gets started. You have all the intention, even the desire, but the time time just never seems right. Maybe you did start it, before being distracted or changing your mind. Whatever the reason, it seems destined to stare at you longingly, waiting for the day you finally Press Start.
For me, the modern Tomb Raider games fall into this category. I think they look gorgeous, I dig the new Lara Croft, I can even forgive the tacky QTEs but, damn, I must have watched that ship crash on no less than three occasions, yet have barely gotten Ms. Croft out of the first cave, let alone turned her into a logic-destroying killing machine.
But this week, for the tenth time, Tomb Raider found itself installed on my PC. I even got as far as adjusting the visual settings and running a benchmark (Still Ultra, thankfully, considering its nearly five years old). But when I think about reading torn notes for backstory, or gathering crafting components, it just ain’t happening, baby. Maybe this weekend I’ll try again, while Hollow Knight continually coos to me from the Steam menu…
…Dammit.
What about you guys ‘n’ gals? Hope you had some free time this week to spend with our favourite hobby. Let us know down below what you’ve been playing, or have planned for your weekend bender, perhaps? We’d love to hear from you!
Have a great weekend, from all of us at Destructoid.
