Players have been clocking up thousands of miles crawling, running, and sprinting towards and away from enemies ever since the launch of Helldivers 2. Being agile and able to get to cover or rush an enemy is the difference between life and death. However, more often than not, even a good burst of stamina isn’t enough to get you out of a Terminid swarm when the rest of your squad has disappeared or been claimed in the name of Super Earth. Thankfully, vehicles are on the way to add to the carnage.
What are armored buggies and when will they be added to Helldivers 2?
Armored buggies were the first vehicle, unless you count mechs, to appear and shock the community in Helldivers 2. Most believe they were almost certainly hacked into missions, but the fact that they could be hacked in means they’re already in the game files. A couple of weeks after the game’s release, videos of players driving around in these buggies, which look a lot like the Halo franchise’s Warthogs, began to appear.
Once players get an armored buggy, at least two of them will be able to ride in style across a planet. I reckon there are probably two seats inside, potentially three given the game uses squads of four, as well as a gun turret on the back. The player on the back is at risk of getting demolished by enemies, but they also have a powerful machine gun at their disposal. Ultimately, this looks like the best way to travel to an objective quickly while having at least some level of defense.
At the time of writing, we have no details on when armored buggies will be added to Helldivers 2. It’s difficult to speculate because nothing has been shared about them that’s official. When they are added, as with most major abilities in the game, they’ll probably be Stratagems that players must purchase in their ship and equip for a mission.
What are APCs and when will they be added to Helldivers 2?
The APCs (armored personnel carriers) in Helldivers 2 allow players to blast their foes while traveling across a planet in relative safety. As the name suggests, these vehicles are armored, so they can take a beating from any enemy force, be it Terminid, Automaton, or another faction.
Each APC has a driver’s seat and three positions where other players can fire at enemies as they drive past. This means a complete squad of four can load up into one of these vehicles and ride to their objectives easily. I’d like to say that they’ll be protected for the whole journey, but I reckon a Bile Titan could make short work of any Helldiver with their head poking out the top of a vehicle like this.
At the time of writing, we don’t know when APCs will be added to Helldivers 2. I’ve already seen several players sharing the APCs they’ve encountered in-game on social media. While this confirms that the vehicles are in the game somewhere, it’s likely that these ones have been hacked into missions.
When APCs are added to Helldivers 2, they’ll almost certainly be a Stratagem that players will need to unlock in their ship. I’d expect to see it pop into the meta loadout almost instantly. This means multiple players can call it down, though only one of them will need it in their loadout since the vehicle can carry all four players.
While armored buggies and APCs have appeared in Helldivers 2, which is why we know they’re probably going to come to the game as official vehicles at some point, there could be more. With every update, developer Arrowhead Game Studios could add files referencing new vehicles, giving us a glimpse at what’s to come in the future.
