In Resident Evil 4, protagonist Leon S. Kennedy and “uneasy ally” Ada Wong often crossed paths. Even with the changes in the remake, that was one element from the original story Capcom would never alter. Interactions between Ashley and Ada also remain the same between the versions: Mostly distant. But does that change in the DLC? Ashley actually does have a little more presence in the Separate Ways DLC of the RE4 Remake, making things a bit different this time around.
True to the original, the story of Separate Ways follows Ada as she works in the fringes of the base game’s campaign. Her interaction with Leon is rare, and they usually clash in a whirlwind of bitter feelings and snark. Ada does help Leon at times, and comes in clutch during his most dire moments. But her relationship with Ashley was nil in the original, but not so much in the remake.
You can hear Ashley crying in the church in Separate Ways DLC
In Chapter 2 of of the DLC, Ada is shown ringing the famous bell that lures the village Ganados away for, uh, bingo. Leon is left behind, unknowingly rescued by the lady in red. After a conversation with Ada and her handler, Wesker, you’re given full control of her again. If you walk to the side of the church, you get a prompt to use your grapple gun to a rooftop. There’s really no reason for you to go up there save for a bird next you can knock down for treasure. But if you go near the wall, you can hear a crying Ashley, captured and in need of rescue.
Just below is the church’s storage room, which contains an Ashley interactable. Inside, head to the nearby table and look at the photo of Ashley. She’s on the floor, tied up with a note written over: “Keep her locked in the church until the appointed time.”
Ashley and Ada ultimately do meet up in the RE4 Remake Separate Ways DLC. During the fight between Leon and Saddler, the two briefly run into each other. Ashley asks Ada to help Leon out. Of course, that’s exactly what happens. Leon gives ol’ Saddler the “holy body” he’s always wanted, before he and Ashley zip away from the island for good.
