Where to find Grade 8 Dark Matter

Certain vendors sell Grade 8 Dark Matter for 280 Gil per piece. FFXIV crafters use one piece of Grade 8 Dark Matter per item repaired. You can request a repair from friends or DIY — either way, it’s worth buying a stack so you don’t need to hunt down Mender NPCs for a quick fix. We’ll highlight those handy NPCs and where to find them below.

How does Repair work in FFXIV?

The FFXIV Repair menu
Screenshot by Destructoid

Each piece of gear has certain specifications for repair, including which Disciple of the Hand class can perform that repair. You’ll need to level your crafting classes to repair higher-level gear. For example, a Paladin’s armor typically needs a suitably leveled Blacksmith or Armorer, while Accessories, such as rings and necklaces, require a suitably leveled Goldsmith.

Under the Crafting & Repairs heading on a piece of equipment, the Repair Level displays crafting class requirements and levels. You’ll also find the exact condition of the item as well as its Spiritbond Level. Mend the gear yourself by a right click, then select Repair. Then, select either the individual item or Repair All in the bottom right corner to mend all pieces at the same time.

How do I know if my gear needs to be repaired?

The character window displays the state of your equipped gear. On the left side of each piece, a bar denotes the condition of your items. A blue bar means the gear’s condition is at least 100%. When it’s green, the gear’s condition is less than 100%. When a piece of gear drops to 0% condition, it no longer provides any stat increases.
