Attack on Titan has never been a particularly romantic anime series. But — at the same time — it’s never shied away from telling stories of characters in love. In fact, one could argue the main plot only happens because a character loved another character, but at that point we’re just arguing semantics.
With Attack on Titan’s final episode having aired, fans are wondering what became of one of the more interesting and layered characters in the core cast — Mikasa Ackerman. Who did Mikasa end up with at the end of the series, and what was her ultimate fate? Please be aware that, from this point on, this article will contain spoilers for Attack on Titan’s ending. Proceed only if you’re unconcerned by spoilers.
Who does Mikasa end up with at the end of Attack on Titan (AOT)?
I hope, after the abject suffering everyone in the cast went through in the series, they end up with a lifetime’s supply of therapy. But, if you’re looking for a more serious answer, it’s a bit more complicated.
It is unclear who Mikasa ended up marrying after the events of the series, though she does end up with someone. At some point, she dies of old age, and it’s implied she was able to attain some happiness with the person she ended up with.
It should be obvious to most that she didn’t end up with Eren, given he was reduced to a head without a body. And, given the emotional, physical, and psychological damage he managed to inflict on her by the end, even if he’d survived, she has no business being anywhere near that walking pile of red flags.
She was, however, buried with the scarf Eren gave her, which implies that no matter how far she moved on from Eren, a piece of him always existed with Mikasa.
