This isn’t the voice actor’s first time in a Nintendo game
Rauru is one of the newest characters in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and it didn’t take long for him to make a splash on the internet. Many people are wondering who this character is, as a brand new addition to the complicated Hyrule mythos, and who his voice actor is. Thankfully, I have the answer for you.
Who voices Rauru in Tears of the Kingdom?
Soon after starting the prologue in Tears of the Kingdom, you’ll be introduced to Rauru. He is an integral part of the main storyline, for reasons I’ll get to further below. If you feel like you’ve heard his voice from somewhere before, you might not be wrong.
After all, the voice actor for Rauru in Tears of the Kingdom is none other than Chris Hackney. The voice actor, born in 1982, is certainly no stranger to Nintendo games, either. One of the most notable roles for him in the recent past was Dimitri in Fire Emblem: Three Houses, where he was the head of the Blue Lions house.
In addition to that, he voiced N in the Pokemon Evolutions anime series. Some of the other notable non-Nintendo roles from Chris Hackney include Kamisato Ayato in Genshin Impact, Juro Kurabe in 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, and Miles in Valkyria Chronicles 4.
The Rauru Tears of the Kingdom character, explained
Rauru is one of the first characters you meet in Tears of the Kingdom. Soon after arriving at the Great Sky Island tutorial area, you are guided to the Temple of Time. When you first arrive here, you meet Rauru in a cutscene.
He is one of the most important characters in the main plot of Tears of Kingdom, for a number of reasons. For starters, he is the source of the arm that Link has in this game. He gives up his arm to Link to help him stem the tide of gloom and darkness that tries to consume him.
Beyond that, though, going over Rauru’s role in the game is spoiler-filled, so turn away now if you don’t want to know more about his character.
Rauru is, technically, a character from the past. He is from the far past of Hyrule and is a previous ruler of the kingdom. He is one of the mysterious Zonai people, who came from the sky to settle on Hyrule’s surface. Ancient Ganondorf was his enemy and they battled one another in the far past. These events link back to the current storyline in Tears of the Kingdom.
