While the iPhone and iPod Touch excel at slower paced, touchscreen-based puzzle games, the lack of buttons makes you wonder why anyone would even bother with game emulation for the platform. I guess a Nintendo Entertainment System emulator could be something fun to have on your iPhone, but I wouldn’t expect too much from a PlayStation emulator.
If you just have to have PlayStation emulation on your iPhone/iPod Touch, you can try the newly released psx4iphone emulator, currently at version 0.1.0. The installation is a bit of an undertaking, but when it’s done you’ll get to play your favorite PSX titles in miniature. With no buttons.
This is pretty cool as a proof of concept, but the devices aren’t cut out for gaming goodness. The framerates are very low for most games, and analog control just isn’t going to happen. These devices are large enough to fit some disc images, but that would cut into to their video/audio storage room.
I’d say save yourself the headache. Get a PSP instead.
