First we had the Wonka-inspired Xbox Series, and now there’s something that should appeal to the Brit in me. If you’re from good ol’ Blighty and you like the idea of your Xbox or PlayStation peripherals reminding you of this fact, Yorkshire Tea may have the answer.
With a message that we should all “press X to boil kettle,” the famous tea brand has married hot beverages with gaming by selling PS5 and Xbox Series controllers slapped with the logo and that familiar imagery. These were designed by POPeART.
With the traditional countryside visuals and that bright orange background, any British person seeing these may feel a slight warmth in their heart at the mere sight of them.
I’m more a coffee person, myself
However, such warmth may not be forthcoming, as the controllers are priced at £150 each (about $190 US). Yorkshire Tea itself says the company isn’t actually making money from the accessories. Another tweet says these are a “small run” and were originally going to be just a one-off idea. Then the thought struck to actually make them available to buy.
In any sense, it’s possible that these tea-based controllers may not be around for a long time, but the company has said it’ll be keeping an eye on what people are saying about them.
Given the price, it might be a wee bit off-putting to many of you. It’s a nice idea, especially for those in your life who love tea and gaming. And now I can’t stop thinking about that Yorkshire Tea ad that featured Sir Patrick Stewart.
