Back at E3 2006, I waited in the now infamous Wii Line of Death to play the new console for the first time. Somehow I was magically whisked out of line by a Nintendo rep (lucky me!) to the front entrance, and the first thing I saw was an early Wii Music. I was so moved by the very idea of a music game you control with your hands, and ever since then, I’ve been dying to hear more about Wii Music.
And then Nintendo’s E3 2008 press conference happened. What was announced was nothing like I had hoped. Instead of conducting an orchestra, players now wave their arms about aimlessly, while noise that barely resembles music comes out of their TV speakers.
Nintendo has been releasing new instrument videos for Wii Music ever since. Two of the most recent, the accordion and the dog, have me scratching my head. I cowered my head like a dog when Tiff told us about the “puppy” Wii Music instrument at E3. Seeing it in “official” action has me even more disappointed. I don’t even know what to say.
The accordion video (after the jump) is even more painful — mostly to the ears. I don’t know what’s going on here, but it’s definitely not “music.” The worst part is that she isn’t even playing it like an accordion!
