After completing Square Enix’s 2023 epic, many are wondering if there will be a Final Fantasy 16 sequel. We now know from the horse’s mouth whether or not this will be the case.
Is a Final Fantasy XVI sequel being worked on?
Those hoping for a Final Fantasy XVI sequel may be left disappointed. “The development team for [Final Fantasy XVI] has been disbanded apart from the main DLC team, so at the least, we are not expecting to make a sequel or spin-off,” said producer Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida to Famitsu (via GamesRadar).
“If you ask me if there will be anything related to FFXVI in the future, I don’t know,” Yoshida added later. “Since I don’t know what will happen, I’d rather not say anything definite.” It seems like Final Fantasy XVI won’t be getting additional games like the 10th and thirteenth entries of the series.
Is there Final Fantasy XVI DLC?
Thankfully, we have two pieces of story DLC for Final Fantasy 16. First, there’s the Echoes of the Fallen DLC that’s available now after its trailer debuted at The Game Awards. It takes place before the epic final battle with a new story, weapons, battles, accessories, and level cap. You’ll be exploring the Sagespire and figuring out dark secrets as you battle your way through the tower. You can also find Cloud Strife’s legendary Buster Sword as well.
There’s a second DLC installment called The Rising Tide. It will feature the Eikon Leviathan, a long-standing summon in the series.
