Activision couldn’t just wait a few days until WonderCon, could it? The publisher has gone ahead and announced Spider-Man: Edge of Time today.
Developed by Beenox, Edge of Time puts players into the web-slinging roles of both Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2099. The goal: “correct a timestream gone awry and prevent a catastrophic future brought on by the early and untimely death of Peter Parker.” Sounds serious.
The game’s narrative is being penned by Spider-Man 2099 co-creator Peter David. It sounds like the good old Spidey action we love is back, but with a twist: “cause-and-effect” gameplay. Activision says decisions and actions made in one timeline will cause changes in another. Whether or not that will be completely in the hands of the player or tightly scripted remains to be seen.
More details about Spider-Man: Edge of Time will be revealed this weekend at WonderCon at the Activision/Spider-Man panel (April 2, 4:30 PM, Room 103).
