We learned from this morning’s Nintendo Direct that for the first time ever, anyone from registered friends to random folks around the world can play in online matches (via broadband internet) in a Mario & Sonic Olympics game. Ski Cross, Snowboard Cross and Short Track Speed Skating, and a combo Dream Event make up the four online-compatible events. What’s cool is that every time you earn a medal in online events, you also earn points for your home country. Just like the Olympics. Or a World War.
Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games launches on Wii U on November 15. A downloadable eShop version will be priced at $49.99, and a Wii Remote Plus store bundle will be available for $59.99.
