According to Blizzard’s latest announcement, invites go out to veteran players, fansites, press, friends, and family soon. Additionally, anyone who pre-orders the Epic edition of The War Within will also have immediate Beta access. It’s not the cheapest route, but if you’re interested in being a part of the feedback for the full release, this is the best way to guarantee it.

If you’re lucky enough to be selected, you’ll receive an email to your Battle.net account address telling you so. You can then download the beta directly from the Blizzard launcher. Remember that Phishing attempts are common around betas, so always check the official sources before clicking on anything in an email.

As for what’s available in the beta, you’ll have access to the following:

  • Leveling to cap
  • Hero Talents
  • All available zones
  • 4 leveling dungeons and 4 max-level dungeons
  • Delves – new instances that can be completed solo or with friends
  • Warbands, read more about here
  • The Earthen playable race
  • All other new systems

The new expansion is fast approaching and is expected to arrive sometime in late summer or autumn. The War Within is the start of a three-expansion series, The World Soul Saga, which promises to be a massive culmination of the Warcraft storyline.
