Game Informer’s survey asked around 5,000 of their readers about the fail rate of their Xbox 360s, and the fat number of 54.2 percent came back. Ouch. Compare that to the survey’s 10.6 percent for the PS3 and 6.8 percent for the Wii.
Surprised? I’m not. In my mind, it’s closer to a 100 percent fail rate for the Xbox 360, as your first one stops working, and your second one works fine. Maybe. We all know that one guy who has had 3 or more failures in a row.
A failure rate of 54 percent sounds bad. It is bad. But I don’t think it’s stopping anyone from enjoying the console. Belive it or not, the survey data showed that only 3.8 percent of Xbox 360 owners said they’d never buy another Xbox because of these hardware failures.
My gut reaction to that is to say that everyone is stupid to be so loyal, but I’d be saying that as I boot up my (2nd) Xbox 360 to play Shadow Complex. You win this round, Microsoft. Get the kinks worked out next time.
