Yoshinori Ono might be half-dead, but that hasn’t stopped him from keeping a personal SDCC tradition alive and well. The Street Fighter IV producer took the stage earlier in the week during Capcom’s 25th Anniversary panel and once again teased fans hoping for an announcement regarding the long-awaited next entry in the Darkstalkers franchise.
In the past Ono has asked for a show of hands (filled with money) as a symbol of fan support for a new game. “This year, you don’t have to do that”, said the face of Capcom’s fighting game division. “And it’s not necessarily bad news!” Ono went on to explain that he couldn’t say much more than that, likely fearing the wrath of his much maligned corporate overlords.
This non-announcement follows reports back in March suggesting that Ono has shifted his attentions following the release of Street Fighter X Tekken and the next game would use a modified version of the Street Fighter IV engine. It sure sounds like there’s a new Darkstalkers in the works, at least I hope so.
