This feature should bravely become default in the genre
And it still took over 20 hours!
Twitter user @dol_goemon, a Dengeki Online staffer, has Bravely Default: For The Sequel, which released in Japan, Europe, and Australia last week — it’s releasing in North America next year. He also finished the game with the newly implemented random encounter slider dialed all the way down to -100%. That is, no random encounters.
He also completed the game (on Easy) without having to engage in the microtransactions that were thrown in to “have as many people possible beat the game.”
The Encounter None skill was my favorite part of Final Fantasy VIII‘s weird, cool gameplay system, so I’m glad to see similar workarounds implemented in more RPGs. Barring a fabulous combat system, grind gets old, and I don’t necessarily have the 60-70 hours to drop into a JRPG not named Persona.
